The Healthy Lunch Box

The Lunch Box
Today I was watching the Rachel Ray show and she was going over some different ideas for the lunch box. Her suggestions included grilled cheese sandwiches, tuna melts and chicken nuggets (among a few other ideas). I have learned after having a child who is in the 3rd grade, that he would rather take a lunch than buy. So I have had to become extremely clever and creative when making his lunch. I know I am not the only one going though this …. Or am I?
When Rachel spoke of the chicken nuggets she said that we as parents should make our own dip sauce….SMART! This way we can put all of the healthy ingredients into our sauces. It is now encouraged by my sons’ school to bring healthy lunches and snacks to eat. So instead of throwing a cupcake in the lunch box I will swap it for a granola bar. And it is important to always put a piece of fruit in the lunchbox. Lastly, put a small water bottle in the lunch box instead of a sugary juice drink.

I thought that these were all great little tips to keep our child(ren) healthy!

Tootles!

  1. My daughter enjoys pbj, leftovers, and tuna for lunch (since preschool). Mint water is her drink of choice with the occasional bottle of apple juice. I like the idea of making your own sauce for the nuggets:). Great tips, thanks for sharing!
